Description: One of the centerpieces of the Republic of Vietnam Historical Society's collection, this flag comes from the estate of US Army Major General Harris Hollis. Hollis served tours as commander of the US 9th and 25th Division in Vietnam. The measurements of this flag denote it as a regimental ARVN flag. This flag signified the army branch of the Republic of Vietnam Armed Forces, and each regiment in the Army of the Republic of Vietnam would have carried a flag like this. To the best of our knowledge this is only original flag of this format known to exist today. The flag's design is similar to that of other contemporary military flags in Southeast Asia. The Republic of Vietnam Naval branch had a similar flag, as did the Army of the Royal Kingdom of Laos (See photos below).
