Dated: 1950s
Description:Multipiece construction, French military manufacture. When France formally withdrew from Vietnam in 1955, as with other the armies of the newly established states in former French Indochina large quantities of French military clothing were in use by the Army of the Republic of Vietnam. The cap shown here is the standard French military bush cap used in the First Indochina War. This cap is French military manufactured, but locally produced pieces in Vietnam also existed. These remained in prominent use by the new republic in its first couple of years, becoming much less visible as military clothing manufacturers in Vietnam increased.
