Republic of Vietnam ARVN M1 US Helmet

Dated: 1960-70s

Description:US military manufactured M1 pattern helmet with Mitchell pattern reversible cover. The US made M1 helmet was the standard helmet used by all branches of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Vietnam. Locally Vietnam made camouflage covers were also used, but the bulk of helmets were issued without covers, and those that were (namely Marines, Rangers, National Police) often came with US Mitchell reversible camouflage pattern covers. National Police troops utilized the reverse summer/desert pattern of Mitchell covers as it matched their own cloud camouflage pattern fatigues, though it is also likely Vietnam made National Police cloud pattern camouflage was also made in helmet cover format. When using the Mitchell cover all other branches used the standard forest/green reversible side of the pattern. This was particularly seen in Marine and Ranger units in increasingly large numbers into the 1970s.
