Metal badged berets were more commonly worn by enlisted personnel, but were also worn by officers. The role of the National Police went well beyond the normal duties of a civil police force, functionally serving as another branch of the armed forces. National Police units were often the first on the scene in engagements, particularly in cities and population centers.
